Creativity on the walls, to match the creativity on the plate.

Kofi&Co is an independent brunch and coffee concept with two locations. Atrium was invited to create an original body of work across both spaces, with a particular focus on pieces produced within our own studio.

The brief was to bring joy, energy and creative expression into the spaces through contemporary art, giving the walls the same sense of character and originality that Kofi brings to its food and coffee.

02 / The approachA lot of freedom, and it changed the outcome.

The main room

An evolving exhibition, rather than a static hang.

There was a lot of creative freedom on this one, and that changed what the collection became. Instead of choosing work to suit a scheme, we built a body of work that holds together the way a show does.

Figurative work, abstraction and street art, given room to speak to each other across the space.

Seen through a different lens

These nocturnal works explore how context shapes perception. A solitary hooded figure, an image often read with unease, is placed within landscapes alive with colour, reflected light and movement, allowing the scene to feel intimate, atmospheric and unexpectedly beautiful.

Originally held within the studio archive, the paintings were selected by the client after seeing them in person. Their inclusion brought a more contemplative note to the collection: two works that ask how differently the same subject can be understood depending on the lens through which it is viewed.

04 / PlacementOne work, holding the end of the room.
A large figurative painting hung alone on a dark green wall

Alone, against a dark wall.

The work began with a still taken from a rap music video, which we reinterpreted in the studio through a more abstract, street-influenced visual language. The figure remains, but is broken into colour, gesture and layered mark-making rather than rendered literally.

Hung alone against the deep green wall, its vivid palette creates a strong focal point within the room, bringing energy, contrast and a distinctly contemporary edge to the space.

Street energy, reframed

The client was drawn to the energy of street art, but wanted it expressed with greater subtlety and refinement. Rather than reproducing traditional graffiti, we translated its immediacy, freedom and raw mark-making into a resolved, gallery-ready painting.

Beginning with a figure taken from a music video, the image was progressively abstracted through spray paint, drips, layered gestures and neo-expressionist forms. The result carries a joyful, youthful energy while remaining sophisticated enough to speak across generations. It has since become the most discussed and widely loved work in the collection, a painting that captures both the creativity of the brand and the audience it brings together.

The walls get refreshed.

Our relationship with Kofi&Co continues to evolve. We are developing a new body of work that will introduce a fresh visual tone across the restaurants, allowing the walls to shift alongside the growth, character and creative direction of the business.

The paintings have also travelled beyond the walls, extending into the wider visual identity of the brand, including its menus.

For us, art placement is never a single transaction. It is an ongoing creative journey, one that can continue to shape a space as the people and ideas behind it evolve.
