Something Contemporary. Something theirs.

Dan wanted an original contemporary abstract for his home, and he wanted his two children in it.

The house is mostly blacks, whites and soft neutrals, with colour used sparingly, so the painting had to sit comfortably inside that. The goal was straightforward: make a piece that works as a strong contemporary abstract first, and carries a meaning that belongs to the family second.

02 / The namesHis children, in the work itself.
Woven in, not written on
Woven in, not written on

Woven in, not written on.

His children are the biggest joy in his life, so their names sit inside the composition, drawn with the same hand, the same weight and the same energy as everything around them.

They belong to the painting rather than sitting on top of it. For the family, that gives the work a connection nobody else needs to have.

03 / The paletteAnchored, so it can play.
Grounded with black. Alive with colour

Grounded with black. Alive with colour.

Blacks and deep tonal shades anchor the composition, giving the painting enough visual weight to sit confidently within the home’s restrained, minimalist interior.

From that darker foundation, lighter passages and playful bursts of colour bring energy, movement and personality, allowing the work to feel expressive without becoming disconnected from the space.

Contemporary enough for the house. Personal enough for the family.
